One of my bookclubs chose Black Dogs by Ian McEwan to read. In it, the narrator tells the story of his in-laws, his wife's parents. They were married during World War II in Europe. As newlyweds, though, they experienced a traumatic event (at least the wife did) that forever altered their relationship and drove a wedge between them.

It's more of a commentary on evil and how these two people dealt with it in different ways. It's a well-written book but I found it hard to become engaged with the characters. It is short and an easy read.
