I went to see Madama Butterfly this past Friday at the Academy of Music. We had horrible seats but it was enjoyable anyway.
I think opera is supposed to be something you either love or hate, but I found it merely likable. Some parts dragged but some parts were engaging. It's not going to be my very favorite type of cultural event but I would go again.
I approve of subtitles, although I've heard they're controversial. I would have been mostly lost without them, though.
The sparkling and gilded interior of the Academy of Music, a building I love from the outside, reminded me of a casino: lavishly ornate and over the top.
